First, let me point out that, according to strict punctuation rules, the title of this Bible should have an apostrophe after the word "Guys." But we'll let that slide...
I have seen earlier Tyndale Bibles that are oriented towards either boys or girls, and there is often some extra material in them that makes them specifically for that gender. Honestly, the only thing I can see that makes this particular Bible "guy-friendly" is the black and blue cover design! Inside, it's simply an NLT Slimline Reference Bible. In fact, even though the little slip cover wrapped around the Bible calls it the Guys Slimline Holy Bible, there is no such title on the title page or the copyright page. So essentially this is merely a Slimline Bible, packaged to appeal to males.
That being said, it's a handy size with a nice, soft cover. The print is a bit small for my aging eyes, but would presumably be no problem for readers at whom the product is aimed. I've always thought the New Living Translation is a good one for young readers, and I actually prefer a simple Bible like this to many of the teen-oriented products that are out there. I don't think we need all the niche Bibles that have flooded the market in recent years. So, as a gift Bible, this one would be a good, no-frills choice.
Despite Tyndale's strategy to market this Bible to "guys," I will be giving this to my nine-year-old daughter, who eschews "girly" colors!
